2. Iago is the adversary in William Shakespeare's play Othello. He is a cunning man who devises a scheme to destroy the lives of those he believes have wronged him. Iago is enraged by his failure to be promoted and wants vengeance on his boss, Othello, and the man who took the job he desired, Cassio.
3. Desdemona is a strong-willed and astute woman. Despite certain other characters' claims of military straightforwardness, Desdemona is the play's most direct and honest speaker. Her speeches aren't as long as the men's, but every word counts with Desdemona.
