a) Reported speech is when the subject is active in the sentence and is the doer of the action. Example, he drinks coffee. Passive statement on the other hand, is when the action is attributed to the subject. Example, coffee is not drunk by him.
Reported speech is used when the doer of the action is to be made prominent, example my pen was stolen while passive statement is used when the person or object on which the actionis done is to be made prominent. Example, somebody has stolen my pen.
Passive voice is used when the object becomes into the subject example, i like John while the reported statement is used when we want to say what another person has said example, she said that she likes John.

Another difference lies in the number of clauses (independent and dependent). In compound sentences, at least two independent clauses are used but a dependent clause is not required. While only one independent clause with at least one dependent clause is used in a complex sentence.
To begin a compound sentence, coordinating conjunction is not used. On the other hand, at the beginning of the complex sentence subordinating conjunction is most required.
