BYOD” stands for “bring your own device”. It’s a trend in the professional world, but it is also gaining popularity in many schools. The following are some of the advantages of BYOD in schools. Firstly, BYOD may cause distractions. Although BYOD is beneficial to students and their organizations, taking personal devices into the classroom leaves students with the opportunity to take advantage and use their device for personal reasons. Secondly, not all students own devices, and some of their technology may be obsolete. This means that implementing a BYOD policy doesn’t answer the problem of fair access to technology because in some cases, the digital divide makes it worse for some students may not have personal devices, or the mobile tech they do have is outdated.

Another disadvantages of BYOD is Providing network access and preventing breaches can be tricky. This is because network access for personal technology devices requires a two-pronged approach; having a robust wireless network is the first step and good security is second in implementing BYOD in schools. As a result, small, rural, and low-income schools may find it difficulty building the necessary foundation for a successful BYOD policy.
