a. Field independent learning
This is a tendency to separate details from the surrounding context.
Characteristics
· Curiosity – Independent learners want to find out more about the world.
· Self-examination – Where have you been and where are you going?
Advantages
· Improved academic performance;
· Increased motivation and confidence;
Disadvantages
· Density of presentation may be high because content must be self-contained.
· Individuals must be motivated enough to complete the tutorial.
b. Reflective learners
This involves making your learning a more conscious process. It helps you to become an active learner by asking questions and thinking critically about your own ideas.
Characteristics
· They are motivated and know what they are trying to achieve and why.
· They are proactive in extending their understanding of new topics and subjects.
Advantages
· Record your development.
· Know your strengths and weaknesses.
Disadvantages
· Could be time-consuming.
· May have confusion as to which situations/experiences to reflect upon.
c. Impulsive learners
It is a learning in which a person reacts quickly, but as a result, makes comparatively more errors.
Characteristics
It activates and prepares our body to respond immediately to a given situation
Advantages
· Think through faster
· Do things easily
Disadvantages
· Inaccurate problem solving
· Poor decision making
