Discuss how you will use scanning , analysis response and assessment (SARA) model to police house robberies . 25 marks
SARA is a reasonable approach for systematically identifying and analyzing problems, developing precise remedies to individual situations, and determining whether the response was successful. Many police departments' training curriculum and problem-solving initiatives are based on this model.
Scanning
Through scanning the police can identify recurring house robberies that are of concern to the public and the police.
They can also identify the consequences of the house robberies for the community and the police.
After, they can prioritize the crime and develop broad goals.
Furthermore, the police have to confirm that the problems exist and determine how frequently the crime occurs and how long it has been taking place.
Analysis
In this stage, the police can identifying and understand the events and conditions that precede and accompany the problem.
Next they have to identify relevant data to be collected and research what is known about the crime type.
Thereafter, take inventory of how the crime is currently addressed and the strengths and limitations of the current response.
The police have to identify a variety of resources that may be of assistance in developing a deeper understanding of the crime and why it is occurring.
Response
In this stage, the police brainstorm for new interventions and search for what other communities with similar problems have done.
They then choose the best alternative interventions.
Thereafter, a response plan is outlined and responsible parties identified.
The specific objectives for the response plan are stated.
The planned activities are finally carried out.
Assessment
In the final stage, the police and community determine whether the plan was implemented (a process evaluation).
Pre and postresponse qualitative and quantitative data is collected.
It is determined whether broad goals and specific objectives were attained.
Any new strategies needed to augment the original plan are identified.
Finally, an ongoing assessment is conducted to ensure continued effectiveness for the prevention of house robberies.
