a) Fictional writing is a form of writing that is not based on reality and an example is fictional novels that are purely imagined. Learners explore ideas freely without concern. An example is when learners are able to write a story from their own imagination.

b) Classical literature describes the literature that originates from ancient civilizations such as William Shakespeare's works. A learner is able write or narrate the story of Shakespeare's book for example.

c) Popular culture means the culture that resonates with people at a particular time such as entertainment and sports. Entertainment such as film, music, television and video games, sports, news, politics, fashion, technology, and slang.

d) Academic essays are assignments that need to be done in the form of essays and an example is a cause and effect essay.

e) Review is an evaluation of any work either academic or non-academic such as an article review. An example is a review that pays particular attention to the teaching and learning of language and mathematics of learners in the foundation phase.
