To those who believe Africa lacks expertise in responding to pandemics, I would say to them that Africa is able to fight pandemics on their own. While many countries in the Western world failed to immediately implement known evidence-based interventions, most African countries took this matter seriously in order to protect their populations. Lockdowns and border closures were implemented very quickly after the first few cases were reported, to support the prevention strategy. To prevent the influx of cases, several African countries closed their borders, canceled flights, and imposed strict lockdown measures. Africa implemented one of the strictest lockdowns in the world, which helped to reduce infection rates from 42 to 4%.
