Lawrence Kohlberg proposed three levels and 6 stages of moral development; these are
Level 1 Pre-conventional
Stage i: Obedience and punishment- a child or an individual behaves well to avoid punishment
Stage ii: Individualism and exchange- children or individuals start to recognize the need for reward and other’s viewpoints
Level 2 Conventional
Stage iii: Interpersonal relations- child or an individual, develops social norms and positive attitudes
Stage iv: Social odder- child or an individual can maintain law and order of morality
Level 3 Post conventional
Stage v: Social contract- child or an individual becomes aware of laws or rules
Stage vi: Universal principles- child or an individual develop moral guidelines and principles at this stage.
