The author describes how she felt cut out of her family because of their despite against her because of her gender, to the point that her father would say he has seven sons despite her being a girl. On the other side, her father was concerned that she had graduated without a spouse and wanted to pressure her into marrying. The author, on the other hand, desired her father to be proud of her. She made him proud by presenting a novel she had authored one point, and she was overjoyed when he inquired where he might obtain a copy for his family.
