Briefly discuss the difference between reading and reading for comprehension and then explain how a lack of reading comprehension contributes to the reading failure in primary schools
Reading is the process of attempting to make sense of written symbols. It is a perceptual ability that allows humans to receive information. Someone can read a piece of information to be heard by others. Reading does not require as much focus. The reader doesn't need to read between the lines to comprehend the text.
On the other hand, reading for comprehension is a type of reading in which the reader aims to comprehend what is being read. Readers who are working on understanding are attempting to decode what they are reading. They also make an effort to make connections between what they read and what they already know. In incomprehension reading, readers ponder what they have just read.
Because childrens do not grasp what they read, a lack of comprehension reading contributes to reading failure in South African primary schools. They cannot keep up with the updated step-by-step English growth curriculum due to a lack of comprehension, resulting in the loss.
