A. Pre-operational stage
Children in this stage cannot mentally manipulate information, and therefore they have an increase in play and pretending. Their play is mainly symbolic and manipulating symbols. For example, they may use a box as a table, paper as plates, and checkers as snacks when playing. Thinking in this stage is also egocentric making it difficult to see things from other people’s point of view.
B. Concrete- operational stage
On the other hand, children in this stage have a mature like thought process. However, they can only solve problems relating to concrete objects or events. They also have inductive reasoning at this stage and draw inferences from what they see and hear to make generalizations. For example, a child will understand that six is more than four and four is more than 2. However, when asked whether six is more than 2, they may not be able to figure out the answer logically
