As a country grows economically, there are some development projects that it invests in. These development projects are key in continuity of the economy and they are therefore financed by the government and other investors like in the case of foreign direct investments. To sustain development, the government has to support through financing and offering essential services. A price that the country and citizens have to pay is taxes to maintain the projects or to repay the debts incurred in the process of development.

There is a thin difference between living in the poverty line and living in absolute poverty. To understand the difference, it is better to note that poverty is a situation in which people do not have enough or lack in totality the required materials to sustain the basic form of needs which are food, shelter and clothing. Living in the poverty line means that the individuals only have what is enough to provide for some of the most basic needs and still they are not able to fully cater for all the basic needs without a struggle. On the other hand, living in absolute poverty means that the individuals severely lack the basic needs and they do not have access to service aid in the community. In most middle-income countries, majority of the population lives in the poverty line whereas in low-income countries, the majority live in absolute poverty. Another example is that people in slums are living in absolute poverty while those in rural areas of less developed countries are living in the poverty line.
