Nelson, one of the children in your class, does not look healthy. His stomach looks bloated, and his skin looks dry and scaly. Apart from often falling sick and skipping school, Nelson also seems to be tired most of the time, and his teeth are decayed. On following up on Nelson’s family background, you discover that he comes from a poor family, and that his parents are unemployed. 1.1 In your own words, explain what the cause of Nelson’s condition might be and what factors could be contributing to the condition.
Nelson’s condition may not be caused by him not taking sufficient proteins, minerals or vitamins but the main reason for Nelson’s condition brought about by consuming foods which have low amounts of proteins. Low amounts of protein can be brought by infections and drought.
Another factor that is contributing to Nelson’s condition is conditions that hinder with protein absorption such as cystic fibrosis which is an inherited disease that destroys the lungs, nutritive changes for management of milk allergies in infants and children.
