Analyze the topic and/or reading that affected you most during this course. Explain why and how it affected your thoughts on education and teaching? How will it impact your teaching in the future?
The topic that affected me the most during this course was child development.
Child development refers to the sequence of physical, language, thought and emotional changes that occur in a child from birth to the beginning of adulthood. During this process a child progresses from dependency on their parents or guardians to increasing independence. Child development is strongly influenced by genetic factors and events during prenatal life. It is also influenced by environmental facts and the child’s learning capacity.
Child development, particularly the first 5 years of life, impacts long–term social, cognitive, emotional, and physical development. Healthy development in early childhood helps prepare children for the educational experiences of kindergarten and beyond. Early childhood development and education opportunities are affected by various environmental and social factors.
Child development affects my thoughts on education and teaching because one learns that not all children develop the same and as such, when teaching a teacher must put all his or her learners into consideration.
How child development affected my thoughts in education and teaching is that many early childhood learners are forgotten because they had late development and they cannot catch up with the rest of the learners.
Child development will impact my teaching in the future in that i will put my learners as the first priority and also put into consideration those learners that have slow cognitive, emotional and physical development.
