Applying the five stages of cultural development to evidence-based learning in an African perspective will include:

The honeymoon stage- this includes finding evidence-based learning amazing because it provides new insights, new information and creating new communities of practice. It’s appealing considering it’s different from the African traditional, intuition or bias learning.

Hostility and irritability – at this stage of cultural development of evidence-based learning, frustration and confusion may set in considering so much adjustment is required. It poses a new culture that’s totally different form the norm and requires an overhaul in the education system including adopting different technology tools.

Gradual adjustment – slowly, Africa will adjust to the new culture and start to get comfortable with evidence-based learning fueled by technology. Educators will slowly shift to applying data to inform every aspect of their decision-making.

Adaptation – this means overcoming the difference in culture and fully embracing evidence-based education powered by technology in Africa e.g. setting up student information systems and data warehouses.

Reentry shock- African stakeholders may experience shock using the old education system in some areas because of adjusting to a different system.
