5.1)Teaching critical thinking is when a teacher teaches his or her students to think critically in any situation. Through analysis of analogies and analyzing relevant information, students can develop critical thinking skills. There are strategies to grow critical thinking skills which include;

Encourage decision-making. Since a large part of teaching critical thinking skills revolves around applying knowledge and evaluating solutions, teachers should encourage decision-making as much as possible. Incorporate different points of view. This tactic not only establishes that an idea should be assessed from different points of view before an opinion is formed, it gives students a chance to share their own viewpoints while listening to and learning from others. Advantage is that a learner can be able to know different perspectives of a situation before making a decision.

Disadvantage is that it leads one to question their values, beliefs and religion.


5.2) Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) is a student-centered approach to teaching math. Rather than a math program or curriculum, CGI is a way of listening to students, asking smart questions, and engaging with their thinking—all with the goal of uncovering and expanding every student's mathematical understanding. The advantages of Cognitive Learning include; improves comprehension, develops problem-solving skills, promotes long-term learning, Improves confidence, and instills a love of learning. Disadvantage of (CGI) is that the learning process falls on the student which can be difficult.There are numerous practical applications for this cognitive research, such as providing help coping with memory disorders, increasing decision-making accuracy, finding ways to help people recover from brain injury, treating learning disorders, and structuring educational curricula to enhance learning.


5.3) Scaffolding is breaking up the learning into chunks and providing a tool, or structure, with each chunk. When scaffolding reading, for example, you might preview the text and discuss key vocabulary, or chunk the text and then read and discuss as you go. The advantage is that i t challenges students through deep learning and discovery. Its disadvantage is that, to the teacher it involves giving up authority to allow learners to learn at their own pace.


5.4)Simulations are instructional scenarios where the learner is placed in a "world" defined by the teacher. They represent a reality within which students interact. The teacher controls the parameters of this "world" and uses it to achieve the desired instructional results. A simulation is a form of experiential learning. The advantage is that it allows students to apply their skills, strategies and knowledge practically while presenting specific roles. Its disadvantage is that it reduces the seriousness of learning.


5) Problem-solving is the act of defining a problem, determining the cause of the problem, identifying, prioritizing, and selecting alternatives for a solution and implementing a solution.

The advantages of this is that problem solving develops mathematical power. It gives students the tools to apply their mathematical knowledge to solve hypothetical and real world problems. It is enjoyable. It allows students to work at their own pace and make decisions about the way they explore the problem. Because the focus is not limited to a specific answer students at different ability levels can experience both challenges and successes on the same problem.

The disadvantage of problem-solving is that less content knowledge maybe learnt.
