Piaget's stages of cognitive development are organized in four stages and they seek to explain the different stages that children go though in order to develop their minds fully. The theory not only focuses on how children acquire knowledge but also how intelligence is acquired at young ages. The four stages are sensorimotor stage which occurs from birth to two years, preoperational stage which occurs from two years to seven years, concrete operational stage that occurs from seven to eleven years and the formal operational stage that occurs from twelve years onwards. The theory explains that children take part in learning process through experimentation. The stages involved in the theory describe how children get to know about language choice. Each stage defines the complexity of literature acquired by children with the level of complexity increasing with age of children. The stage that enables children acquire a greater milestone is the formal operational stage since the age of children allows for complex understanding of such literature.
