There are various intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics that maybe evaluated by a consumer when making snack purchasing decisions. Intrinsic factors include flavor, texture, energy and satiety whereas, extrinsic factors include promotions, price, brand name and product packaging.

When you think of snacking, what ingredients are the most important to you?

The key nutritional factors that are highly considered while snacking are sugar, fiber, protein and fats.

What snacking ingredients do you think will be trending in the next year? 

The global pandemic has changed consumer preferences in new and unexpected ways. There is an increased demand for foods and beverages that support the immune systems, enhance our moods and sustain energy levels. An example of snack that will be trending next year is that which has been enhanced with immune boosting vitamins, collagen and protein

Packaging helps to protect the food against microbes and bacteria. It also helps to increase the shelf life of the food. The ideal packing for snack should be able to protect the snack, have information on its nutritional value and should also be able to market the snack and grab the attention of the shoppers.
