Group of four
As a teacher, I'd like to see my pupils adopting the four-person grouping format. In an advanced class, it is more trustworthy, especially when a debate is required.
When you want your students to put their heads together, break them up into small groups of four. You can give them a project to work on. You can also give them time to think about an issue on their own before asking them to discuss it with the rest of the class. Individual work is, of course, also feasible. This seating arrangement only adds to the social aspect. When working in "groups of four," students are required to sit alongside their classmates all of the time. They become friends and get to know one other better. To begin the year, this sitting arrangement is an excellent choice.
