Advantages of Wildlife conservation to local communities
Firstly, Protecting forests from deforestation and rebuilding forest habitats to preserve biodiversity aids in the carbon-sequestering process helping in bringing in clean air. Secondly, provides new economic opportunities to the local communities as rangers, environmentalists, managers among others. Thirdly, wildlife conservation leads to improvements in access to forest resources, improved basic infrastructures such as drinking water, trails, and bridges, and improvements in health, sanitation, and social services thus helping local communities access such benefits.
Disadvantages of Wildlife conservation to local communities
Firstly, wildlife conversation has led to the destruction of properties of the local communities by wildlife like elephants destroying maize in the surrounding farms. Secondly, it has led to deaths from the wild animals on escaping.
Sustainability competencies in the 21st century include; firstly, systems thinking competency which is the ability to see how organizational systems like internal/external conditions, processes, people interact and influence each other, and how these systems create and contribute to specific issues, secondly, anticipatory competency which is the ability to collectively analyze, evaluate, and craft rich pictures of the future related to sustainability issues and sustainability problem-solving frameworks. Thirdly, there is normative competency which is the ability to convey, apply, and negotiate sustainability values, goals, and targets. Fourthly, strategic competency involves the organization to achieve and sustain a competitive advantage. Lastly, there is collaboration competency which aims in working together with unity towards a common goal.
In choosing environmental education, we should ensure that it provides knowledge individuals and communities with basic knowledge and understanding of the environment and the inter-relationship between humans and the environment. Secondly, it should be able to create awareness and a sensibility in individuals and communities about the environment and its problems. Thirdly, it should have an attitude that encourages individuals and communities to value the environment and consider it important and tries to inspire participation in the process of improving and protecting the environment. Fourthly, it should have skills that provide people with skills to identify, predict, prevent and solve environmental problems. Lastly, it should allow for participation such that it provides individuals and communities with the chance to actively participate in solving environmental problems and to make educated decisions about the environment.
