Use open-ended questioning techniques. This practice encourages critical and creative thinking and enhances problem-solving skills. Open-ended questions encourages clear communication and provides students with the reassurance that their thoughts and ideas matter.
Engage in explicit instructions. Explicit instructions moves away from the skill and drill attitude of teaching. It pulls the students right into the heart of the lesson. Students therefore become active participants of the lesson rather than being onlookers and bystanders.
Encourage student reflection. Reflection creates time and space for individual and group growth. It also allows time for the students' brains to process what they have been learning.
