Nate hadn’t been to the beach since his fourth grade. It had been a long couple of years, but he survived nonetheless. And, instead of going for a ride, Nate wanted to visit a very new place for new experiences. He could admire the sites from how they looked on pictures he could see. He could have the best summer with other children.

Listening with an open ear, he heard the yearning to really meet new friends and play together with the heaps he imagined. He remembered a rock he used to jump off of it and into the water and sit on it to read his favorite book that was on a beach in Amsterdam where they had visited before but had no one to play with then.

As the memories poured in, Nate felt the smell of saltwater. It could travel up his nostrils. It released something on him. Yes, it was the sand against his bare feet. Finally, he was there. A dream come true.

But it didn’t end there. Whenever Nate looked far into the ocean, the emotion he got was a strong sense of peace and calm that resided over him continuously. The beach made him feel such things. The infinite blue sky above bright sunshine and the big, fluffy white clouds added a touch of ecstasy.

Nate drowned himself without realizing it. The hot and heavy daydream about Betty saving him while trying to make heaps of sand made him get back to his senses. By the time Nate woke up, he had sawed seaweed piled in heaps in various spots on the beach. There were many children with no broken shells lining the waterline, which filled with debris unlike before. Nate and the children had a perfect moment.
