https://poets.org/poem/river "The River" by Ralph Waldo Emerson contains alliteration, personification and metaphor. Example of personification is where he talks about how the river went into the world. An example of alliteration is in the line "fragrant flood...father's field" where the "f" is repeated. An example of metaphor is when he describes the river using the words "blue wonder." These examples of figurative speech gives the poem a smooth flow and allows the learner to understand the mood and tone. The poem is not cultural sensitive. However, if a learner comes from a place with no rivers perhaps I would accompany it with visual aids and audio to help them in understanding.
