Jon Krakauer quotes one of McCandless’s friends, who said that McCandless “was born into the wrong century.  He was looking for more adventure and freedom than today’s society gives people” (p. 174). Do you think this is true?

The statement is true because McCandless liked adventure and was against his home country. Finding freedom for McCandless was difficult compared to today’s society. When he said he was going to Alaska, he earnestly searched for it on a map but he never found it. This prompted Chris to eliminate the map.
