One of the many claims against online teaching and learning is that it “throttles practice”. In an argumentative paragraph of no more than 150 words, discuss to what extent you agree or disagree with this claim. Use at least two of your experiences as a student during the national lockdown to support your argument.
Online teaching and learning is an avant garde pedagogy approach with the capacity of opening new frontiers in education. Whereas critics consider the use of internet for learning a "throttle practice" such notions are well-founded. The Covid-19 pandemic threatened many areas of the economy, moreso learning. However, online learning created a perfect platform that enabled teachers and students to interact at the safety of their homes. Personally, I continued with my course modules through my institution student portal. The pandemic prompted my institution to strengthen online education after the realization of its potential and opportunities. Online learning and teaching also enabled me to sharpen my research skills without overly depending on instructors. After the pandemic I am certain that institutions will put more emphasis on teaching and learning via the internet. The Covid-19 has exposed shortcomings of traditional learning methods, thereby, creating a necessity for alternative solutions with the use of technology. With sound and research backed policies online learning and teaching can get strengthened and the notion of "throttle practice" eliminated.
