Discuss why workplace ethics are important in an organisation. Use a recent example of an organisation of your choosing to elaborate your answer. The example you use can be a positive or negative experience for the organisation. Some ethical obligations of business are regulated through legal frameworks in areas such as employee relations, health and safety, and environmental protection.
Workplace ethics are crucial for any organisation because they ensure that workers and employers operate within the provisions of normative rules of the society. In essence, they protect both the interests of employees and employers in the workplace environment. An example of violation of ethics is the termination of an employee based on their religious beliefs or sexual orientation. In April 2021, Sven Sundgaard, a meteorologist working with KARE 11, sued the news agency for wrongful termination. Sundgaard claimed that he was terminated on the basis of his religious beliefs of Judaism, and the fact that he was gay ( Raihala, 2021).Termination on such grounds violates fundamental rights such the freedom of association.
