How did Dr Wulick associate literary symbols (Valley of Ashes and Dr. TJ Eckleburg) to George Wilson’s character in Chapter 8? And are you completely agreeing to this?
Wilson feels like she has been imprisoned by the kind of life her husband, George Wilson, is offering. She leaves to go in search of a better lifestyle. She meets Tom Buchanan and becomes his mistress. She gets all the material wealth she desires. Later on her husband suspects that she is cheating on him and he locks her up in a room above his garage. Myrtle tries to escape. During her escape she is hit by a car being driven by Daisy, wife to Tom Buchanan.
The life imprisonment Myrtle experienced socially happens in her late in life physically when her husband locked her up.
I agree with Dr. Wulick as he has clearly illustrated how the events unfolded from the figurative social imprisonment to the physical imprisonment by her husband.
