The power of our unconscious, according to David Brooks' Happiness Factor, is the true reason we excel in our professions and relationships. The unconscious mind is enormous, and it controls human behavior in an unregistered yet significant way. Personal relationships, which are sometimes overlooked, provide a greater source of satisfaction than income, a job, or a home, all of which humans esteem. People who have been married for a long time are happier than people who have not, and the value of the marital institution should not be underestimated. Furthermore, happiness and money have a very poor relationship, while happiness and personal bonds have a very good relationship.

I disagree with David Brooks' list of reasons linked to higher degrees of satisfaction. Since it includes everything beyond one's consciousness and rationality, I think the conscious mind plays a more active and powerful part in influencing human behavior. Our satisfaction levels are determined by our present awareness's memories, thoughts, perceptions, and other impulses, which come from the conscious mind. Brooks' assertion that employment, income, property, and other material possessions are overvalued at the expense of personal relationships, especially marriage, is false. Although certain people strive to choose the right mates and marry, marital success is based on the nature of the partnership between the couples rather than the length of the marriage and is not assured. In addition, many individuals find greater success outside of marriage through pursuing rewarding jobs and other life goals. Money and pleasure have a very close bond. Money has the potential to purchase people's satisfaction rate, allowing them to travel places with their loved ones, eat more, and have more privacy.
