"Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us" is a prayer that is found in the Bible, in the books of Luke 11:4 and Matthew 6:12. It means that God forgives us our sins when we also forgive those who sin against us. To ask God for the forgiveness of our sins means acknowledging how disunited we are with others, making an effort to overcome this disunity moving forward in harmony. Forgiveness is a good action that leads to the restoration of wholeness, making good reign once again. When we sin and ask God for forgiveness, He forgives us, and we become whole also. When other people wrong us, and we forgive them, we become whole in God's presence. The petition showcases that no matter how big a person's sin is, we should forgive them in the same manner we expect God to forgive and disregard our sins.

Relation to Personal Experience

In personal encounters with others, I had had moments when I was furious at those who wronged me. One example is my intimate relationships when the significant other has committed a serious offence that made me very angry. Whenever I let anger towards people's sins consume me, I become resentful, and the poison makes me feel a void like God's presence has left me. Whenever I decide to forgive my significant other or any other person and allow God to heal me from the anger, the resentment is released. Forgiveness removes the block and replaces it with God's grace. I have had instances, many of them, where I have sinned against God and had to go back to him on my knees and ask for forgives for my faith to be restored. Every one of us is desperate for the mercy of God; hence I have learned to forgive others in practice so that I can emulate Jesus who was wronged by many people but forgave them, and he received favor in God’s presence.
