The alternatives to incarceration as punishments for crimes as presented by Foss is an effective way of punishing a person who has done an offensive. Foss justifies that punishment is not a way of reducing crimes. Incarceration will make the criminals avoid carrying out criminal activities in the future. The kind of alternatives discussed by Foss is not "soft" on crime to some extent. However, there are people who consider going to prisons as a normal activity to them. I believe the majority of individuals would not love staying in prisons. Incarceration will ensure accused people could not be released on bond; thus, those people will be prevented from carrying out daily activities outside the prison. However, these alternatives will only be effective to non-offenders who are running their business or employed in offices. When such people are imprisoned, they might lose business or jobs after release.
