From the play A Smart Alec and Two Idiots Walk Into A Closet by Sarah Tarrant, how did the author create believable characters?
The author gives different characters distinct voices and personalities. The author uses varying accents, diction, and favorite sayings. The tones and register used comprise gruff, high-pitched, formal, and eloquent. This tone makes the characters believable. Besides, the author has used a varying degree of focus and distance. For instance, the name Lewis shouts in a high tone that Shawn wants to kill him gives an indication of danger, and therefore he keeps a distance from Shawn. Again, Shawn illustrates a pleasant tone of being compassionate to him. All this makes the characters believable as they attract the reader's attention and emotion to the play.
