What is Synthesizing Information?
Synthesizing is information entails combining related information from different sources and harmonizing it to form a concept. It is an essential skill in academic writing.
When Synthesizing Information, the Following Steps Are Followed.
Firstly, read multiple relevant sources of information. Try to comprehend the main ideas advanced by different sources. Keep in mind the scope of the information you need. This ensures you save time and avoid irrelevant information.
Secondly, take structured notes from every source. Be keen to note the bibliographic details of each source. This will be useful in citation and referencing your information
Thirdly, identify points and ideas mirrored across all the sources and compare delivery, attitude, and viewpoint of your sources.
Fourthly, rewrite your information on the bases of the points identified above. Check on conflicting ideas and where the scholars have consensus. Interrogate the main arguments of each concept by each source.
Fifthly, merge the points, craft an outline, harmonize your draft in your own words and tone, and synthesize it.
