What is an Example of Critical Approach in South Africa?
Critical theory is a social approach that seeks to unravel the weakness of the societal structures, values, and norms. Its main tenet is the redemption of the society from restrictive and enslaving structures and traditions and creates a world that satisfies human beings (“critical theory (Stanford encyclopedia of philosophy),” 2020)
Feminism is a prominent example of critical approach in South Africa. Feminism in South Africa have been largely influenced by struggles for political and racial inequality and the struggle for gender equality(Buiten,2020). The advent of democracy provided a springboard for the inclusion of women in the post-apartheid state, through equitable representation. Consequently, feminism remains a mainstay in the national discourse of south Africa alongside class and race issues.
