If it weren’t for Ariadne, Theseus would not have been able to get out of the maze alive. This is because the Minotaur that was imprisoned in the labyrinth had killed each and every person that had entered the maze. The Minotaur feasted on the prisoners that were sent in the maze by King Minos. Theseus volunteered to kill the Minotaur to end the human sacrifices to the monster. King Aegeus advised his son, Theseus not to go but he was determined to slay the Minotaur. King Minos was sure Theseus would never leave the labyrinth alive even if he were to kill the Minotaur.

Princess Ariadne who had fallen in love with Theseus, advised him to enter the labyrinth with a thread. She gave him a thread and told him to unravel it as he penetrated deeper and deeper into the Labyrinth, so that he would know his way out when he had killed the monster. Theseus followed her suggestion and entered the labyrinth with the thread and managed to kill the Minotaur as such saving the Athenians. Therefore with Princess Ariadne’s thread, he managed to retrace his way out.
