Plant are photosynthetic organisms. They use energy from the sun, water, and carbon dioxide to produce their own food - sugars. This process is called photosynthesis. Sun energy is crucial for the biochemical transformations occurring during photosynthesis in plant chloroplasts. In addition to sugars, the photosynthesis is associated with the production and release of molecular oxygen. As plants can produce their own food, they are called producers. Animals, in contrast to plants, are consumers as they cannot photosynthesize.
