In The Crucible, Arthur Miller uses direct and indirect characterization to describe his characters. By using direct characterization, a reader is able to depict who the person is through descriptive text. One becomes familiar with characters quite easily. With direct characterization, a reader learns who a character is based on his action and ideas. In general, by using both direct and indirect characterization, the author makes it easy for readers to understand the characters personality and understand the play as well
