Literature is defined as a group of works of art made up of words. It can either be written or passed by the word of mouth. Generally, literature means work of poetry, prose or play that is well composed. Literature is a noun that can be countable or uncountable. In most cases its plural form will also be literature. However in specific contexts the plural form can also be literatures mostly in reference to various types of literatures or a collection of literatures. For example we can say: John was a natural linguist and learnt Latin, German and English and studied their literatures.
We can also: The seminar's topic was Renaissance utopian literatures, focusing on More's Utopia.
