In Act 3 of The Crucible, Mary Warren confeses the truth about the proceedings. She tells the judge that Abigail and her fellow girls were frauds (Miller, 1953). Aditionally, she tells the court that she pretended to faint during the witch trials. Consequently, Hathorne confronts her to faint to prove the assertaion that she convincingly pretended to faint. Afterwards, Abigail Williams and the other three girls scream and claim that Mary Warren is sending them an evil spirit in form of a yellow
bird.
