The statement “Ulysses’ problem was made worse by victory” simply means that the atrocities that Ulysses and his men had committed to their enemies while at war despite his win had come to haunt him. Ulysses recalls what ten years of war had turned him into. He had into barbaric while his men became thieves. He led his men to a fight that destroyed everything including the vital means of transport because of greed and treasure. Carrying food and water for his men became a big challenge.
