A house with 200-m2 floor space is to be heated with geothermal water flowing through

pipes laid in the ground under the floor. The walls of the house are 4 m high, and there are 10

single-paned windows in the house that are 1.2 m wide and 1.8 m high. The house has R-19

(in h · ft² · °F/Btu) insulation in the walls and R-30 on the ceiling. The floor temperature is

not to exceed 40°C. Hot geothermal water is available at 90°C, and the inner and outer

diameter of the pipes to be used are 2.4 cm and 3.0 cm. Design such a heating system for this

house in your area.

15. The tooth thickness of a gear is 0.5 in. and its circular pitch 1.0 in. Calculate the dedendum of the gear.

14. An internal gear is set up with a 5 in diameter pinion and center distance of 18 inches. Find the diameter of internal gear.

7. It is generally recommended and normal for a designer to add a hunting tooth to evenly distribute the wear on meshing teeth like a 53 teeth mesh with 30 teeth pinion. Find the rotation of pinion to mesh same pair of teeth again.

13. A pump that operates a head of 30 m is used to deliver 80 liters per second of water at an efficiency of 85%. The pump is driven by a diesel engine by means of chain and sprocket with a service factor of 1.3. If horsepower per strand is 25, find the approximate number of strands needed.

8. Find the standard distance between sprocket having 4 in and 16 in diameters.

7. A chain with speed 800 fpm has driving sprocket turns at 900 rpm. If the pitch of chain is ¾ in, find the number of teeth of driving sprocket.
