Question #243814

To design a rector of hydrodesulfurization reaction to convert benzothiophene into ethylbenzene with a cobalt-molybdenum catalyst supported on alumina.we have packed bed reactor (adiabatic ) temp-260C and pressure 30bar.please provide solutions for Weight of catalyst required

Expert's answer

The most frequent support for HDS catalysts is Al2O3. To date, Al2O3 has been widely utilized as support in HDS catalysts because it has a large surface area and porosity, is easily shaped into a suitable shape, and has great mechanical strength and hydrothermal stability.

Pore volume per unit mass of catalyst (Vg), cm3 g−10.041926

The molecular weight of gas (Mwi), g mol−14

The molecular weight of LGO (MWL), g mol−1184.26
