Individuals prefer digital social networks due to the following reasons:

1. Introverts find it easy to socialize as they remain behind the screen and do not have to face people.

2. Everything seems perfect on social media. Social media puts a layer of perfection into the lives of every individual. However, the reality is way different. As said everything that shines is not glitter. So let us say the lives on social media glitter but it's not necessarily gold or actually as luxurious as portrayed.

3. It's easy to connect to people irrespective of geographical boundaries.

4. It's easier to interact with more people at a time. Video calls are a perfect example of this.

5. During the pandemic when social distancing was imposed it was social media that kept everyone in touch.

Excessive use of digital social networking can cause the following mental health issues:

1. The constant pressure to maintain a luxurious lifestyle like peers or other influencers on social media.

2. Cyberbullying is also a crucial part of social media. This may lead to anxiety and depression.

3. Excessive use can cause inconsistency of sleep patterns.

4. Casual social isolation can cause loneliness and depression.

Yes, we must definitely be concerned about becoming addicted to social media. There is news which deals with the consequences of using social media excessively. There had been news where a teen was influenced by a man and was looted of cash by promising to marry her. The teen was so influenced by the man that she failed to judge the authenticity of the proposal. Also the urge to lead a luxurious life the teen fled with the cash and later was robbed and abandoned.
