Question #256868
  1. F. Directions: Read the following extended definitions. Discuss with a partner the kind of information that has been included. Does the definition mainly discuss components, applications, history, examples, or something else? Explain your answer

23-25. Lateralization is a developmental process during which the two sides of the brain become specialized for different functions. As a child develops, the two sides of the brain become asymmetric in that each side controls different abilities. Language, for instance, is controlled by the left side of the brain and certain types of pattern recognition by the right. However, there is some disagreement as to when this specialization is complete. Some researchers believe the process is not complete until puberty, while others maintain that the brain is lateralized by age five.

Solution:

The information that has been included in the definitions are the neural functions or cognitive processes that are specialized on either the right or left side of the brain. That the brain is separated into two unique cerebral hemispheres connected by the corpus callosum, each undertaking its own functions.

The definition discusses components, applications, examples, and something else, in whether specialization is complete by age five or until puberty.

Lateralization of the brain mentions the two components of the brain, that is the right and left side, including what operations or abilities are controlled by each component. Applications of the two components are stated, such as language and specific types of pattern recognition.
