DNS (3,5-Dinitrosalicylic acid) assay is a method used for the determination of reducing sugars in a sample. As a result, the technique is used for measuring the concentration of reducing sugars in biological samples (i.e., blood serum and urine). In addition, the method is used to estimate the enzymatic activity of alpha-amylase or cellulase as the enzymes are associated with the release of glucose. As a result, the assay is also used in food technologies and pharmaceutical industry.
