If 100 cm3 of 37% hydrochloric acid, density 1.18 g / cm3, is added to 4900 cm3 of water, calculate the mass concentration of the newly formed solution!
1) Density = m / V
m = d x V = 1.18 x 100 = 118 g
m (HCl) = 118 x 0.37 = 43.66 g
2) Density of water is 1 g/ml. Therefore, mass of water is 4900 g.
% (HCl) = (100 x 43.66) / (4900 + 43.66) = 0.9%
