Can I use chromatographic technique and EDTA titration for finding calcium content in toothpaste ?
Cation exchange chromatography can be used for the separation of calcium ions from a sample. Moreover, the retention time of calcium ions determines the concentrations of the ions in the sample. EDTA is a compound that chelates calcium ions. For the titration, the indicator is added to the sample solution containing the calcium ions and forms the pink calcium ion-indicator complex reflecting ions concentration. As a result, both methods can be used to calculate calcium content in toothpaste.
