ADH is produced and released into the blood when blood osmolality (concentration of ions, i.e., sodium) increases. As a result, the body requires to dilute these ions and to increase the amount of water in the blood. This process induces the absorption of water into the blood. However, dilute urine does not affect the production of ADH.
