Genetic engineering is a complex method that provides direct manipulation of the organism's genes. Genetic engineering deals with the alterations in the genetic material of the organisms. In other words, genetic engineering uses multiple techniques to modify the organism's DNA changing the features and properties of the organisms. Production of genetically modified microorganisms is one of the applications of genetic engineering. In particular, researchers modify bacterial DNA by inserting certain genes and coding DNA sequences into bacteria. As a result, the microorganisms produce certain proteins that might be further purified and used in medicine. For example, various human growth hormones are produced in bacteria due to the application of genetic engineering techniques. These proteins are further purified from bacteria and used for the production of medications used for the treatment of different human disorders.
