Answer to Question #238111 in Physical Chemistry for Ashok

Question #238111

2. The oxidation potential of a Nickel half cell is 0.25 V and the reduction electrode potential of a silver half cell is 0.80 V. (a) Represent Nickel - Silver cell. (b) Give their electrode and net cell reactions and (c) Calculate the standard emf of Ni-Ag cell. (Hint: Eo Ag+/Ag > Eo Ni2+/Ni)

The nickel is the anode—the site of oxidation where nickel ions flow into solution and electrons leave the electrode and flow through voltmeter as they move to the silver cathode.

The silver is the cathode- the site of reduction where silver ions flow onto the electrons as they pick up electrons.
