What conclusions can you draw about the nature of the four samples tested for purity? Explain your answers.
Titrations such as acid–base, oxidative, or precipitate are conventionally used per the USP for the determination of strength, potency, or purity of drug substance. Potentiometric methods using automatic titrators for nonaqueous titration are commonly used in the quality control laboratory. Most drug substances are the salts of an organic base such as the hydrochloride salts, which can be titrated with perchloric acid in a nonaqueous solvent, for example, acetic acid with the addition of perchloric acetate.
